A very successful week at the European Track Championships | SWABO Women Development Team

Tessa Dijksman, Maike van der Duin and Daniek Hengeveld represented the #CyclingDoneDifferently family at the U19 and U23 European Track Championships in Ghent. Both Hengeveld and Van der Duin came home with multiple medals, whereas Dijksman also showcased her abilities on the track. Hengeveld even took the victory in the U19 women’s elimination race.

Van der Duin took home the team’s first medal in the scratch race. She finished just behind Nikola Wielowska and Lara Gillespie to win the bronze medal. Van der Duin repeated that in the points race, finishing third behind Matilde Vitillo and once again Lara Gillespie.

The highlight of the week without any doubt came with Hengeveld’s European title. The strong first-year junior had chose to ride in front through the entire race. In the final sprint she started her sprint from the front and just after passing the finish line, she cramped out. But she timed her efforts to perfection and it was enough for the European title. In the omnium that followed Hengeveld finished in sixth place after another strong performance.

Van der Duin and Hengeveld finished the European Championships in style. They teamed up for the madison and they took home the silver medal. “We can be proud of ourselves”, Van der Duin said after the race. “It’s pretty much the perfect ending of a very special week.”

Tessa Dijksman rode to 14th place in the U23 women’s individual pursuit. It’s not a result that ends you up in the headlines, but she has all the reasons to be happy with her performance. She showed real progress, just like her two medal winning teammates.
