Report: Teuntje Beekhuis 7th on uphill finish in Vuelta a Burgos | Biehler Pro Cycling

The team’s DS Stefan van Klink named Teuntje Beekhuis as a rider to watch in the 2019 Vuelta a Burgos. At the end of the second stage the 23-year old Beekhuis proved Van Klink right, coming over the line in seventh position.

“Today’s stage was all about the final climb”, Van Klink recaps the race. “On the first climb there were some dropped riders, but they were all able to come back. Marissa Baks went on the hunt for some extra mountain points and even though she did not win it she once again showed she was strong.”

“The final kilometre was steep and it was where the race was decided. On the steep slopes Teuntje Beekhuis was able to unleash her power”, Van Klink continues his story. “She perhaps came from a little too far back, but she kept fighting until the finish line and she was one of the strongest in the sprint for the line.”

“Teuntje had a lot of bad luck so far this season, but this seventh place confirms her immense potential and it gives us all the more reason to look forward to tomorrow’s stage, where another uphill dash for the line is expected.”

“Marissa is in fifth place overall after today’s stage, and she is also still in contention for the QOM jersey. That is definitely a classification we target. Teuntje is likely our best bet for another top result, but we will see what tomorrow’s race will bring.”
